Hermanus lies about 115 km from Cape Town and is well known as one of the best places for whale watching. The coastal town is very popular with holidaymaker's during school holidays but are also visited by tourist from all over the world. From August every year whales can be seen all over Walker Bay and Hermanus has its own official whale crier. Hermanus hosts an annual whale festival normally at the end of September, when the Southern Right whales come into the local bay during the mating season. Hermanus has an old and new harbour and close to the old harbour you will find many shops and flea markets where you can support local businesses. Grotto beach is a very popular Hermanus beach with a long beautiful white beach with "Blue Flag" status. Hermanus Tourism |
